Anthropic's IPO is approaching, and with it a fundamental question: how will a company built around AI safety behave when shareholders demand growth and profits. According to a CNN analysis, Anthropic's prospectus includes more than 90 pages of risk factors, covering among other things misuse of models and existential risks, topics most public companies never mention.
According to The Information, Anthropic told IPO investors that its chip design team already uses Claude in its work. That joins a series of huge computing deals the company has signed, and the revised prospectus it published Monday, which disclosed nearly $17 billion in third-quarter revenue and more than $895 billion in commitments.
Meanwhile, according to news digests, Anthropic warned that AI-assisted research may soon accelerate dramatically, meaning models could start contributing significantly to the development of more powerful models. Anthropic and OpenAI also prepared to counter misinformation around the US elections, held yesterday.
For investors, Anthropic's IPO will be one of the largest in history, and a test for a market already showing signs of fatigue with AI spending. For the tech world, it will test whether a company can hold to a safety commitment under the pressure of quarterly reports.
