Nvidia has released as open source the full Run:ai platform, the Israeli GPU management software it bought in late 2024 for about $700 million. According to Nvidia's developer blog, Run:ai is now freely available as part of the company's DSX AI Factory platform, not just its scheduling component, KAI Scheduler, released earlier.

What Run:ai does

When a company runs tens or hundreds of GPUs to train and run AI models, many sit idle much of the time. Run:ai, founded by Omri Geller and Dr. Ronen Dar, smartly divides computing power among teams and tasks, making better use of it. At a time of chip shortages and high prices, that is a significant saving.

Why free

The founders said at the time of the acquisition that they intended to open the code, and the move was seen as part of an effort to reassure regulators reviewing the deal. The community version requires no paid subscription but does not include enterprise support. For Nvidia, free software that manages its processors is a way to make them even more attractive.

The Israeli angle

Run:ai is one of several Israeli companies Nvidia has bought, alongside Mellanox, and is part of the reason Nvidia's Israeli R&D center is one of its largest outside the US. Opening the code ensures that technology developed here reaches thousands of organizations worldwide.
