Bites, an Israeli startup developing a platform for employee training and communication, has raised $40 million. According to Geektime, PeakSpan Capital led the round, with participation from Vertex Ventures, Horizon Capital, Rittenhouse Ventures and Lyra Ventures, bringing the company's total funding to about $55 million.
What Bites does
Most corporate training tools were built for employees who sit at a computer. Bites targets frontline workers: staff in restaurants, retail chains, factories and hotels, who receive training through short videos and content on their phones. At its first seed round in 2021 the company reported 200,000 users, including employees at chains such as Unilever and H&M.
The founder from the restaurant
According to Geektime, the founder came to tech from the restaurant world, where the problem was visible firsthand: it is hard to train employees who turn over quickly, work shifts and don't check email. It is an example of how some of the best tech ideas come from people who knew the problem from the inside.
The trend
Software for frontline workers is a huge market that was long considered neglected, because most tools were developed for office workers. With AI making it possible to generate tailored training content quickly, the field is attracting more and more investors.
