Meta is weighing a bond sale of at least $20 billion, Bloomberg reported early this week. The offering would be cross-border: a dollar portion running five to 30 years and a euro portion from about four years to just over 38 years. Meta held investor calls on Monday, and some reports put the size as high as $25 billion.

It comes about a week after Meta filed to sell roughly $37.5 billion of common and preferred stock as part of a broader equity push. Meta raised $30 billion in bonds last year and another $25 billion in April.

The reason is familiar: like Microsoft, Google and Amazon, Meta is spending unprecedented sums on data centers and AI chips, and advertising cash flow alone no longer covers the pace. Investors' appetite for this debt is being watched as a gauge of confidence that AI spending will pay off.

No final terms or pricing have been published. The sale also lands in the week US midterm voters showed broad opposition to new data centers, which could make the building itself harder and more expensive.
